Shin Kong Financial Holdings (SKFH) has long been committed to implementing the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). On the 8th, at the "2024 APSAA Asia-Pacific and Taiwan Sustainable Action Awards" ceremony, SKFH and its subsidiaries, including Shin Kong Life Insurance (SKL), Shin Kong Bank (SKB), and MasterLink (MLS) , were honored with 8 awards, including 1 gold, 5 silver, and 2 bronze, in the "Asia-Pacific Sustainable Action Awards (APSAA)" and "Taiwan Sustainable Action Awards (TSAA)". The number of awards received reached a new high in history, demonstrating SKFH's ambition and positive impact on corporate sustainability.
SKFH CEO Chen En-Guang stated that the company has received multiple awards, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable values of "Low carbon," "Innovation," and "Common good." This has motivated employees to continuously incorporate sustainable thinking into their operational decision-making processes, implement various ESG action plans, strengthen interactions with stakeholders, and aspire to create even greater value for economic prosperity, social welfare, and environmental sustainability in the future.
Building an inclusive workplace, recognizing the value of diverse ethnic groups.
SKFH regards its employees as important assets for sustainable operation. Over the years, it has upheld the core value of "people-oriented" and created a diverse, equal, and inclusive workplace. Even before the recent DEI wave, SKFH has implemented various systems and action plans. For example, since 2006, it has established incentives for recruiting indigenous people and provided holiday leave and subsidies for ancestral rituals and homecoming, assisting indigenous colleagues in maintaining connections with their tribes while enjoying quality work.
In addition, SKL, SKB, and MLS have all implemented a retirement re-employment program to retain suitable senior colleagues, achieving a win-win situation of "retaining outstanding employees," "maintaining social interaction and work-life balance for colleagues," and "responding to the government's promotion of employment for middle-aged and elderly individuals." Furthermore, with over 70% of female colleagues in SKFH, it has established smooth promotion channels and friendly welfare measures to help female colleagues achieve a balance between being a "successful woman in the workplace" and a "mother." These efforts are recognized as high-quality examples of SDG8 and have received recognition such as the APSAA and the TSAA.
Linking internal and external resources to create social impact.
SKFH adheres to the business philosophy of giving back to society and has long been focusing on issues related to children and education. This includes collaborating with Mandarin Daily News to expand the horizons of children in remote areas through newspaper reading education, as well as assisting children in improving their writing skills and harnessing the power of knowledge to transform their futures. In addition, SKL, a subsidiary of the Group, is the only private enterprise that has been organizing popular street dance competitions for 21 consecutive years.Apart from providing a stage for the younger generation to showcase their talents, the company also hires professional instructors to teach street dance courses in schools for free, giving underprivileged youth the opportunity to learn professional street dance and performance skills.
SKB, another subsidiary, leverages its core financial capabilities by inviting students with disabilities to experience a day as bank employees in its branches, providing them with insights into the world of finance and helping them envision a career in the field.
This initiative also helps optimize Shin Kong's customer service processes and experiences.Furthermore, MLS, another subsidiary, has long been committed to financial education in schools. Starting from 2023, it has collaborated with a blockchain financial technology team to launch the "Digital New Vision" online live program. Through this program, it spreads the concept and application of complex digital assets using digital audiovisual methods that young people love, helping them gain a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of new types of investments and reducing the risk of investment fraud. These projects are linked to SDG 4 and SDG 10, and have achieved excellent results, including 1 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze awards. This demonstrates the long-term commitment of SKFH and its subsidiaries to financial inclusion education and social engagement.
Promoting a Green Workplace and Practicing Low Carbon Values.
SKFH's carbon reduction target was officially approved by SBTi in February this year. In order to continue reducing carbon emissions and create a green workplace, SKFH has started by establishing internal environmental sustainability policies and incentive mechanisms. Through environmental education and training, the company aims to enhance employees' green competitiveness. It also aims to create low-carbon service locations by setting up carbon-neutral branches/counters, assessing the carbon footprint of service locations, implementing self-use solar power generation equipment, and promoting digital paperless operations to reduce carbon emissions at various locations. In product development, the company incorporates green and low-carbon design concepts, working together with customers to reduce carbon emissions. SKFH is committed to taking action in three dimensions, from top to bottom and from the inside out, to shape the company's green DNA and build a low-carbon product and service chain. This way, when customers use financial products and services, they can also contribute to the goal of achieving zero carbon emissions for the planet. The above efforts contribute to SDG13 and have been recognized with 1 silver and 1 bronze awards in the TSAA.
In the future, SKFH will continue to leverage its core financial capabilities, striving to expand its sustainable positive impact from within and beyond. We aim to realize the corporate spirit and values of "Light Everywhere, Heart with You."
